With so many different whitening options, how do you know what is legit and what is commercial? Zoom is the forefront in teeth whitening advertising and has become somewhat of the brand – like Coke with soft drinks. Zoom was one of the first to come out with the light that supposedly enhanced whitening results.
But, does the light actually do anything?
Recent studies show that chemical activation alone is effective at whitening teeth and that light activation does not improve the effect. The study evaluated 10 patients who underwent bleaching on half of their teeth with a chemically activated hydrogen peroxide gel and half of their teeth with a light activated formula. The results show no significant difference between the 2 groups.
Others say that these results are debatable.
Your dentist’s take on it: I think we all agree that lights and lasers do something, we’re just not exactly sure what it is. Greystone Smile Design now only uses chemically activated products – with great success. But, if you are convinced the light will enhance your results, we would gladly try it on you.
